Being a Reporter

I am nearing the end of my first three weeks as a reporter for the Indy!

I have become more comfortable with the staff and editors, and am really starting to enjoy myself.

Almost everyone in my Multimedia journalism class is in newspaper. Lots of familiar faces!

I got my first story assigned to me on the second day of class, and it is a lot different than J101 where you can take your time and write exactly what you want. It was definitely rough watching my story get chopped up and edited, but in the end i learned that it was for the better.

Editors are there to help you and make you a better journalist. They want the best for you and want you to succeed.

Aside from the publishing drama this past Tuesday during production, the first three weeks of being a reporter for the Indy have been wonderful!

I covered my second event yesterday, (Wednesday) It was a 30 clicks presentation in the Cannell Library. It was basically advice on how to manage your money and protect your credit.

Even as a teenager it was helpful. Hopefully I can get 650 words out of it!

First Published Story

Today, April 25, 2012 my first newspaper story has been published.
It was published in the Clark College student run newspaper: The Independent.

The story was about faculty at Clark College who received Tenure.

The process of getting my story published was... complicated i guess.

In this issue we had a lot of ads, which took away from how many stories could be published. My story was one that got cut from print.

I was unaware of this cut, until i was observing the newspaper design manager, and noticed my story wasn't there..

My editors didn't tell me.. this was hurtful.

I wouldn't have minded if they had just told me that there wasn't room, but they didn't.

After talking to my section editor, and the online editor, who talked to the editor in chief, my story was put back into the paper, and now, my first story in the schools newspaper has been printed.

Week 3

Well three weeks into Multimedia Journalism and I'm still not into this blogging thing yet. I still don't know what to blog about, but I have found blogs to follow. I apologize for not knowing what to blog about and that these aren't very interesting posts, but my goal is to get better and adapt to this new thing.

First Blog Post... ever..

I don't really have a topic for this blog, maybe as I get more into this blogging thing, something will strike and I'll have something to say. Right now this is just for my Multimedia Journalism class. Hopefully it'll turn into more as time goes on.
